The 5th Avenue Cinema exists to operate and promote the 5th Avenue Cinema; the only operating college cinema in Oregon and a very beloved part of the PSU community. It is our mission to be a center of film on campus and within the city of Portland.Our central functions are: To host weekly screenings of historically and/or artistically significant films; To foster community for students interested in film; To support student filmmakers and show their work at the cinema; To provide a free venue for student groups and non-profits that wish to show a film; To collaborate with other local film organizations; To provide a valuable educational experience for the students that staff the cinema; To continually improve the 5th Avenue Cinema which has been existence since the 1970s.

Section 1: Membership in the PSU chapter of AISES is open to all PSU students.
Section 2: Membership in the National chapter of AISES shall at all times conform to the rules set in the By-laws and Code.
Section 3: Each member shall be entitled to one vote on each matter submitted to the Chapter.

The Portland State University Student Chapter of the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists (AEG) provides learning and professional networking opportunities for students focused on applied geology that prepares them to become practicing geologists. Learning opportunities include: information about necessary licensure for practicing geologists- ASBOG, professional talks on geologic/ geology adjacent case studies by both academic and professional speakers, networking tips, resume advice and more. AEG also facilitates networking opportunities with the local agency and industry professionals through a variety of local professional meetings such as the local professional chapter of AEG. At AEG meetings, students can receive information about the types of work being done in the fields of environmental, engineering, and hydro-geology. Students can learn about these areas of practice and the wide variety of job types and career opportunities, as well as establish rapport with local agencies. While this program is geared more towards geologists, AEG has members across Geology, Engineering, and Environmental Science, and welcomes any PSU student who feels they can benefit from the activities of the club.

The Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Association of Portland State University (INA, formerly Neuroscience Club) grew from a collective interest on campus for an interdisciplinary neuroscience focus, lobbying for a neuroscience track of study. Currently, we work to supplement the needs of students looking to pursue neuroscience beyond PSU, while working to have a neuroscience major instated.

We are committed to fighting neuro-myths in the community by using diverse interdisciplinary approaches to answering questions about how a nervous system is organized, how it develops, and how it manifests behaviorally.

We provide a platform for students to learn more about neuroscience through discussing research, keeping track of the latest advances in the field, sharing relevant coursework, lab work, internships and job opportunities.

Beyond campus, we enhance public awareness of neuroscience through discussion, educational events, and strong community networking.

Iranian Student Association of Portland (ISAP) is a non-profit and non-religious organization. MECHA de PSU is a leftist (“progressive”, radical, etc.) student organization on campus of Portland State University, in so-called “Portland, Oregon,” with roots in the decades of struggle, direct action, solidarity, and radical education that embodied the Chicano Movement and the militant anti-racism/anti-war student movement of the late 1960s/early 1970s.

We meet throughout the term, mostly in La Casa Latina (SMSU 228). MECHA is inclusive; we welcome all people to our general meetings, events, rallies, and activities. As Mechistas, we develop a sense of identity, leadership, and community in the spirit of activism. MECHA is not exclusive to Mexicanos, Chicanos, or Latinés. The mission of the organization is to create a space for networking, sharing ideas, planning events, and coordinating projects related to sustainable engineering and conservation. The group will be open to students from all departments in order to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Events and activities will range from learning about energy usage and sourcing to environmental projects like trash cleanup and conservation work in natural areas. We'd also like to eventually host events where we have guest speakers from the industry come and share with the group.

The PSU Food Pantry was established by a group of students in ASPSU in 2012. We started as a small, student-run pantry on a single shelf, in hopes to better serve the ever-growing food insecure population of students at PSU. Over the years, we have become a partner agency of the Oregon Food Bank, received more financial donations, and changed space, but we continue to be an organization led entirely by students, for students.

Today, we provide food for nearly 300 students a day and work to reduce food waste, which is a major contributor to the climate crisis and environmental damage. We work hard to grant access to the human right to nutritious food in the most efficient way possible and provide a safe, inclusive space for PSU's diverse student population.

These opportunities are a great way to meet other PSU students, get to know an organization, explore community issues through hands-on service.

STUDENT LEADERS FOR SERVICE is a year-long program that promotes a culture of community engagement on the PSU campus. SLS members serve weekly with a community partner, participate in Friday leadership classes, facilitate group service projects, and help promote a culture of community engagement at PSU. Each SLS member is responsible for serving 4-6 hours/week for the entire academic year at a community organization.

MENTOR: ALDER / PORTLAND STATE is a weekly mentoring program focused on creating strong connections between PSU mentors and Alder Elementary students to support hands-on learning and introduce kids to garden & STEM concepts through an afterschool Eco-Explorers Club. MAPS mentors help run the Eco-Explorers Club on Wednesday afternoons in winter and spring terms (training takes place in Fall).

BIG DAYS & FOCUS WEEKS: Our larger-scale days or weeks of engagement put a spotlight on certain social issues and cultivate a spirit of engagement through service, learning, connection, and reflection. Each of our Big Days and Focus Weeks provide a great opportunity to get out into the community and form connections with other engaged students as you learn, discuss, listen, and engage together to build awareness and work towards positive change around a common cause.

The Green Note is a competitive all-inclusive a cappella group. We rehearse three times a week, put on two annual concerts, perform on campus, compete in national competitions, and accept outside gigs. We are proud to be heavily involved in Portland's music scene. Our repertoire includes Pop, Rock, R&B, and Jazz.

We compete in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) every year with all original arrangements and have won eight special awards at our Quarterfinal. In 2021, 2022, and 2024, we won our quarterfinal and advanced to the semi-finals. We've taken home several special awards including best choreography, best arrangement, best vocal mix, best vocal percussion and best soloist. Since the 2020 competition was fully online to stop the spread of COVID-19, we created a music video that's available to watch on our YouTube channel linked below. The video was shot, directed, and produced by members of the group. Auditions are usually held at the end of the spring term and the beginning of the fall term.

We all have things we wish we had done differently when we were younger. One thing I often hear from Portland State alumni is, “I wish I had known about Viking Motorsports when I was a student.”
The program existed, but many students never heard about it.
Viking Motorsports is a student-led team that designs, builds, tests, and races competition vehicles against other universities. It’s where classroom theory meets real-world application. Students apply mechanical design, electronics, data acquisition, manufacturing, budgeting, and project management to a live competitive platform.
What makes us unique is that we’re structured like a small business. We operate with executive leadership, engineering subteams, finance, marketing, sponsorship development, and operations — giving students experience not just as engineers, but as professionals running an organization.
At the same time, we serve as a social and collaborative space on campus — a place where students from engineering, business, and beyond build community, host events, mentor one another, and grow together while working toward a shared competitive goal.
We’re not just building race cars—we’re making sure students know these opportunities exist and can fully engage in them.

The Women’s Resource Center offers leadership opportunities as well as support services. We provide meaningful engagement opportunities for students who want to establish collaborative, feminist-centered leadership skills that will help them advance toward graduation and prepare them for life outside PSU. We also offer Confidential Advocacy services through our Sexual & Relationship Violence Response Program, where students experiencing sexual assault, sexual harrassment, stalking, dating and domestic violence can get one-on-one support and connect to resources both on and off campus.
