The Portland State University Student Chapter of the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists (AEG) provides learning and professional networking opportunities for students focused on applied geology that prepares them to become practicing geologists. Learning opportunities include: information about necessary licensure for practicing geologists- ASBOG, professional talks on geologic/ geology adjacent case studies by both academic and professional speakers, networking tips, resume advice and more. AEG also facilitates networking opportunities with the local agency and industry professionals through a variety of local professional meetings such as the local professional chapter of AEG. At AEG meetings, students can receive information about the types of work being done in the fields of environmental, engineering, and hydro-geology. Students can learn about these areas of practice and the wide variety of job types and career opportunities, as well as establish rapport with local agencies. While this program is geared more towards geologists, AEG has members across Geology, Engineering, and Environmental Science, and welcomes any PSU student who feels they can benefit from the activities of the club.

We are the Portland State University Chapter of the Hong Kong Student Association. The purpose of this student group is to help the Portland State community expand their knowledge of cultural adjustment, education, and social community while being able to share their unique culture with other members of the community. HKSA is a student-run, multicultural student group dedicated to bringing Hong Kong culture to Portland State University. Its duties are to help PSU students of all ethnicities connect with each other through learning about Hong Kong culture. HKSA is a supportive group that encourages students to be open-minded and connect with other people of different backgrounds. We provide excellent opportunities to connect with other students on campus and with other student organizations here at PSU, all while learning about Hong Kong culture. The Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Association of Portland State University (INA, formerly Neuroscience Club) grew from a collective interest on campus for an interdisciplinary neuroscience focus, lobbying for a neuroscience track of study. Currently, we work to supplement the needs of students looking to pursue neuroscience beyond PSU, while working to have a neuroscience major instated.

We are committed to fighting neuro-myths in the community by using diverse interdisciplinary approaches to answering questions about how a nervous system is organized, how it develops, and how it manifests behaviorally.

We provide a platform for students to learn more about neuroscience through discussing research, keeping track of the latest advances in the field, sharing relevant coursework, lab work, internships and job opportunities.

Beyond campus, we enhance public awareness of neuroscience through discussion, educational events, and strong community networking.

Our club is known for:

* Research in Review - We present and review the latest neuroscience articles and discuss the implications of the research as a group.

* Guest Speaker Series - Experts from a variety of fields related to neuroscience share their experiences within and beyond academia, presenting research and engaging in Q & A sessions where attendees can pick their brains!

* Advocacy in Education - Promoting awareness of neurological conditions and mental health through events highlighting interdisciplinary perspectives, advocating for greater access to interdisciplinary neuroscience education for students and the public, as invited guests speaking at both national and state legislatures.

* Neuro Education - We are proud to partner with the nonprofit organization NW Noggin to promote neuro-literacy and exploration through interdisciplinary art-based activities at PSU and the greater community.

*Brainz on Gamez Series - We love to explore the science of fun through our brain-themed activity nights, aimed at strengthening interconnectivity within our PSU community.

Iranian Student Association of Portland (ISAP) is a non-profit and non-religious organization. Our mission is to provide support for new and continuing Iranian students at PSU, promote academic success, carry on Iranian traditions within the Portland community, and holding cultural events. We intend to be a point of contact to students and Iranian people new to the area. The Iranian student association of Portland intends to unify the Iranian community, regardless of background, in pursuit of a deeper sense of cultural, historical and communal identity. In addition, we celebrate Iranian cultural and historical holidays (i.e. Nowruz, Sepandarmazgan, Sizdeh-be-dar, Mehregan, Sadeh, Yalda), organize group outings, sporting events, and day hikes, and have viewing parties for various Iranian movies. By “mecha”, we mean “the spark” or “the fuse” that lights social movements. MECHA de PSU is a leftist (“progressive”, radical, etc.) student organization on campus of Portland State University, in so-called “Portland, Oregon,” with roots in the decades of struggle, direct action, solidarity, and radical education that embodied the Chicano Movement and the militant anti-racism/anti-war student movement of the late 1960s/early 1970s.

We meet throughout the term, mostly in La Casa Latina (SMSU 228). MECHA is inclusive; we welcome all people to our general meetings, events, rallies, and activities. As Mechistas, we develop a sense of identity, leadership, and community in the spirit of activism. MECHA is not exclusive to Mexicanos, Chicanos, or Latinés. Whether you come from Central America, the Caribbean, the Southwest U.S., South America, or elsewhere; you are welcome. The mission of the organization is to create a space for networking, sharing ideas, planning events, and coordinating projects related to sustainable engineering and conservation. The group will be open to students from all departments in order to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Events and activities will range from learning about energy usage and sourcing to environmental projects like trash cleanup and conservation work in natural areas. We'd also like to eventually host events where we have guest speakers from the industry come and share with the group.

Lastly, we outlined a pledge that we plan to share with all new members and any interested students. We are still wordsmithing the language, but the following will serve as the baseline:

Portland State World Antiquities Guild seeks to connect modern students and community members with ancient ideas, culture and language. Founded by PSU Latin students, the club's membership is currently centered mainly in Greco-Roman antiquity, but our goal is to foster a broad intersectionality among scholars of ancient cultures from across the world.


Members can look forward to visits to the special collection rooms at libraries, fascinating talks on ancient topics and how they reflect in the modern mind, themed social events, and general shenanigans as we revel in the amazing, mundane and strange that has been passed down to us by scribes, scholars, thieves, adventurers and enthusiasts of all stripes!

We may be few but our mission is important: to widen the community of global ancient scholars and increase access to the foundational material of which present social realities are formed. STAGE is a student organization who operates to serve the community interested in theater arts. We produce events designed to educate and challenge those interested in participating in theater, as well as impact and excite audiences! STAGE recognizes our responsibility as artists to produce works of art in an ethical and professional manner.

At our weekly meetings, we discuss current theater topics and talk about particular shows. We also play improv games and work to build connections throughout the community. Our weekly meetings are where we recruit designers, tech, and actors to be in our shows. If you want to get involved with theater at PSU and aren't sure how to, coming to our meetings is a great place to start!

We also put on a handful of professional productions throughout the year. Our goal with these productions is to give theater students a chance to work on their craft independently, with little faculty involvement. As a student organization, we also have the capability to choose our own productions.

The Green Note is a competitive all-inclusive a cappella group. We rehearse three times a week, put on two annual concerts, perform on campus, compete in national competitions, and accept outside gigs. We are proud to be heavily involved in Portland's music scene. Our repertoire includes Pop, Rock, R&B, and Jazz.

We compete in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) every year with all original arrangements and have won eight special awards at our Quarterfinal. In 2021, 2022, and 2024, we won our quarterfinal and advanced to the semi-finals. We've taken home several special awards including best choreography, best arrangement, best vocal mix, best vocal percussion and best soloist. Since the 2020 competition was fully online to stop the spread of COVID-19, we created a music video that's available to watch on our YouTube channel linked below. The video was shot, directed, and produced by members of the group. Auditions are usually held at the end of the spring term and the beginning of the fall term.

WiCS leadership has designed a new series that utilizes Scrimba’s Web Developer platform to encourage community learning. Our goal is to help students move beyond computer science theory and begin practical development. Starting with the basics—HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and later React—we'll follow Scrimba’s Front End Development pathway while covering topics like APIs, code reviews, and responsive, flexible design.


This course is intended to be collaborative and social, where students offer support and accountability for goals set outside the classroom. Much like a book club, work will be done individually and then we’ll discuss challenges we faced, lessons we learned, and how we applied modern development tools to become better problem solvers and software developers.


Leadership has had a great experience with Scrimba and is excited to share it with others. No prior coding experience is needed—just show up, hang out, learn, and build.

Once students have a basic understanding of Data Structures and Algorithms (we recommend completing CS 163), it's time to prepare for internship interviews. We'll break down LeetCode problems, with a special focus on lists/arrays, dictionaries/hashmaps, trees, and graphs. Each session will begin with quiet brainstorming, followed by using the whiteboards in FAB 88-08 to visualize and discuss different approaches. As with most developers, we'll be using NeetCode 150 to supplement our learning. Grinding LeetCode is difficult, but not more difficult than any other challenge you've mastered with practice and patience. Who needs a rubber duck when you have WiCS?
