Our loose theme for the fall 2025-spring 2026 school year is to focus on Portland. This is not a hard rule and we are open to event ideas of all kinds. We hold events monthly throughout the school year (fall, winter, and spring quarters).
While we focus on uplifting planners of color in their respective fields, we also are open to featuring and learning from white planners too.
Please reach out to bipocplannersclub@pdx.edu if you are interested in working with us and share as much as you can about your event idea, what role you see yourself in, dates and times you are available, and anything else. Things to consider: audience (club members or general public), topic, format (single speaker, panel, presentation, Q&A, office hours/chat, roundtable, tour), and accessibility.
You don’t have to have a perfect idea when you contact us, we can spitball, brainstorm, and develop something together. We look forward to hearing from you!
To help you get started:
- the future of planning: with climate change, under this current administration
- professional: job dissolution/creation, navigating white supremacy and micro/macroaggressions in the workplace, early career planners Q&A
- intersections of racial, class, and other justices into conversations around urban planning such as with transportation, food systems, housing, energy, and more.
- alternative histories: what hasn’t been uplifted in the past? What are knowledges and other stories important to reframe these conversations we are participating in?
