Pitch in at the Pantry!

53.9% of Portland State students experience food insecurity. Students deserve to eat.

Our mission? To provide students with a free resource, a sharing community, and a welcoming, inclusive, and dignified environment to acquire food items on a regular basis.

Role of the Food Pantry Volunteer:

Volunteers provide assistance in three main areas:

  • Preparing food for distribution (unloading deliveries, repackaging donations/bulk items)
  • Preparing the pantry space for distribution (cleaning food storage bins, organizing food storage areas)
  • Assisting in food distribution (stocking food on shelves, assisting patrons at the front desk)

Each shift is a little bit different! One day you might be labeling and packaging donations while another day you are stocking shelves or helping with special projects as they arise.

Volunteers commit to a weekly two hour volunteer shift for the duration of the term to support consistency in pantry operations.

We are looking for folks who are eager to learn more about increasing food accessibility. No experience necessary!

Fill out our volunteer interest form and a pantry staff member will reach out with more information on the scheduling and onboarding process. Email pantryoperations@pdx.edu with questions.
