We will meet on campus in the Sandbox (located next to the first floor printing station) and begin our time together with a short explanation and discussion about Meals on Wheels and the work they do in the community to support our elderly neighbors. Then the rest of the hour will be spent crafting and writing cards together. Art supplies will be provided, but you are also welcome to bring your own to use. You are welcome to draw, paint, write a letter or create anything you feel inspired to make - these crafts will be greatly appreciated by the seniors.
At the end of our time together, we will collect all the cards and send them off to Store to Door and/or Meals on Wheels to be distributed to homebound seniors with their grocery or meal delivery.
We look forward to seeing you there!
About our community partners:
Store to Door supports independent living for Portland area seniors and people with disabilities by providing an affordable, personal, volunteer-based grocery shopping and delivery service. Store to Door envisions the Portland area to be a community where all seniors and people with disabilities are nourished, included, and can age with dignity in the setting of their own choice.
Meals on Wheels is a program that delivers meals to older individuals at home who are unable to purchase or prepare their own meals. Part of the program’s mission is to help seniors struggling with social isolation and loneliness, and so we will be making crafts for seniors. The seniors really appreciate the support from the community and it gives them a real boost in morale to receive a handmade craft!
For 50 years, Meals on Wheels People has been meeting the social and nutritional needs of older adults in our community. They serve delicious and nutritious meals at dozens of dining centers in Multnomah, Washington and Clark counties and volunteers deliver Meals on Wheels and friendly visits to homebound elderly. Meals on Wheels depends on more than 5,600 volunteers annually to help us serve and deliver meals.
This project is open to all PSU students and staff via the Student Community Engagement Center! #serveyourcityserveyourcampus
