About ITEK:
Portland State’s ITECK certificate is housed within the Indigenous Nations Studies Department. Your classes will be led by ITECK practitioners with deep lived experience, and supported by our long-term partnerships with both regional and international Indigenous communities and external organizations. Through our projects and partnerships, you'll be able to put your learning into practice!
You won't have to go far to engage in hands-on learning and research! Our students participate in an ongoing project to reclaim an Oak Savanna landscape on the PSU campus for food, medicine and ceremony. This work opens many opportunities for student observation and research, sometimes in partnership with STEM faculty. The site is also home to an ITECK Center, providing ongoing student design-build opportunities in partnership with PSU’s School of Architecture.
The nearby Vernier Science Center features an ITECK Food Lab and Indigenous Library. Along with PSU’s Native American Student and Community Center, these spaces offer unique opportunities to connect with the land and build community.
