The 5th Avenue Cinema exists to operate and promote the 5th Avenue Cinema; the only operating college cinema in Oregon and a very beloved part of the PSU community. It is our mission to be a center of film on campus and within the city of Portland.Our central functions are: To host weekly screenings of historically and/or artistically significant films; To foster community for students interested in film; To support student filmmakers and show their work at the cinema; To provide a free venue for student groups and non-profits that wish to show a film; To collaborate with other local film organizations; To provide a valuable educational experience for the students that staff the cinema; To continually improve the 5th Avenue Cinema which has been existence since the 1970s.

The Portland State University Student Chapter of the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists (AEG) provides learning and professional networking opportunities for students focused on applied geology that prepares them to become practicing geologists. Learning opportunities include: information about necessary licensure for practicing geologists- ASBOG, professional talks on geologic/ geology adjacent case studies by both academic and professional speakers, networking tips, resume advice and more. AEG also facilitates networking opportunities with the local agency and industry professionals through a variety of local professional meetings such as the local professional chapter of AEG. At AEG meetings, students can receive information about the types of work being done in the fields of environmental, engineering, and hydro-geology. Students can learn about these areas of practice and the wide variety of job types and career opportunities, as well as establish rapport with local agencies. While this program is geared more towards geologists, AEG has members across Geology, Engineering, and Environmental Science, and welcomes any PSU student who feels they can benefit from the activities of the club.

The Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Association of Portland State University (INA, formerly Neuroscience Club) grew from a collective interest on campus for an interdisciplinary neuroscience focus, lobbying for a neuroscience track of study. Currently, we work to supplement the needs of students looking to pursue neuroscience beyond PSU, while working to have a neuroscience major instated.

We are committed to fighting neuro-myths in the community by using diverse interdisciplinary approaches to answering questions about how a nervous system is organized, how it develops, and how it manifests behaviorally.

We provide a platform for students to learn more about neuroscience through discussing research, keeping track of the latest advances in the field, sharing relevant coursework, lab work, internships and job opportunities.

Beyond campus, we enhance public awareness of neuroscience through discussion, educational events, and strong community networking.

* Research in Review - We present and review the latest neuroscience articles and discuss the implications of the research as a group.

Iranian Student Association of Portland (ISAP) is a non-profit and non-religious organization. Our mission is to provide support for new and continuing Iranian students at PSU, promote academic success, carry on Iranian traditions within the Portland community, and holding cultural events. We intend to be a point of contact to students and Iranian people new to the area. The Iranian student association of Portland intends to unify the Iranian community, regardless of background, in pursuit of a deeper sense of cultural, historical and communal identity. In addition, we celebrate Iranian cultural and historical holidays (i.e. Nowruz, Sepandarmazgan, Sizdeh-be-dar, Mehregan, Sadeh, Yalda), organize group outings, sporting events, and day hikes, and have viewing parties for various Iranian movies. Littman and White Galleries is a historic student-run exhibition space within Portland State University. The Galleries are archival in that they take up residency on stolen land, as student leaders inside a colonial institution we take accountability for how the past has shaped the present, we acknowledge, Littman & White Galleries' roots are of capital construction. We utilized space and epidemic knowledge of the confederated tribes of Grand Rode, tribal bands from the Kalapuya, Molalla, Chasta, Umpqua, Rogue River, Chinook, and Tillamook, first nation people, original caretakers of the land. We work towards providing community members with space to share visual culture, through programming of exhibitions and art-related events.

By “mecha”, we mean “the spark” or “the fuse” that lights social movements. MECHA de PSU is a leftist (“progressive”, radical, etc.) student organization on campus of Portland State University, in so-called “Portland, Oregon,” with roots in the decades of struggle, direct action, solidarity, and radical education that embodied the Chicano Movement and the militant anti-racism/anti-war student movement of the late 1960s/early 1970s.

We meet throughout the term, mostly in La Casa Latina (SMSU 228). MECHA is inclusive; we welcome all people to our general meetings, events, rallies, and activities. As Mechistas, we develop a sense of identity, leadership, and community in the spirit of activism. MECHA is not exclusive to Mexicanos, Chicanos, or Latinés. Omega Delta Phi is a multicultural service/social fraternity that aims at graduating its members while serving the community. The Fraternity has established itself on over 60 campuses nationwide and continues to grow every year. Although founded mainly by Latinos, the Fraternity has traditionally always been open to men of different backgrounds, as demonstrated through its “One culture, any race” philosophy. Since its beginning in 1987, Omega Delta Phi has been an organization perpetually dedicated to the idea of constant growth and improvement. As such, we face the new challenges of tomorrow with a growing sense of optimism and newfound awareness that "good" isn't good enough. We must work to form an organization which not only challenges the traditional perception of fraternities, but also one with deals with the issues of culture and race for a completely new perspective. The mission of the organization is to create a space for networking, sharing ideas, planning events, and coordinating projects related to sustainable engineering and conservation. The group will be open to students from all departments in order to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Events and activities will range from learning about energy usage and sourcing to environmental projects like trash cleanup and conservation work in natural areas. We'd also like to eventually host events where we have guest speakers from the industry come and share with the group.

Lastly, we outlined a pledge that we plan to share with all new members and any interested students. We are still wordsmithing the language, but the following will serve as the baseline:

The PSU Food Pantry was established by a group of students in ASPSU in 2012. We started as a small, student-run pantry on a single shelf, in hopes to better serve the ever-growing food insecure population of students at PSU. Over the years, we have become a partner agency of the Oregon Food Bank, received more financial donations, and changed space, but we continue to be an organization led entirely by students, for students.

Today, we provide food for nearly 300 students a day and work to reduce food waste, which is a major contributor to the climate crisis and environmental damage. We work hard to grant access to the human right to nutritious food in the most efficient way possible and provide a safe, inclusive space for PSU's diverse student population.

STAGE is a student organization who operates to serve the community interested in theater arts. We produce events designed to educate and challenge those interested in participating in theater, as well as impact and excite audiences! STAGE recognizes our responsibility as artists to produce works of art in an ethical and professional manner.

At our weekly meetings, we discuss current theater topics and talk about particular shows. We also play improv games and work to build connections throughout the community. Our weekly meetings are where we recruit designers, tech, and actors to be in our shows. If you want to get involved with theater at PSU and aren't sure how to, coming to our meetings is a great place to start!

We also put on a handful of professional productions throughout the year. Our goal with these productions is to give theater students a chance to work on their craft independently, with little faculty involvement. As a student organization, we also have the capability to choose our own productions.

The "members" of Student Activities and Leadership Programs are the officers and staff of the SALP groups and programs. The system automatically adds people as members when you become an officer in one of those groups. Staff and students who ask to join SALP, will be added as a contact for our newsletter but will not have access to member resources until they are added as an officer in their group or program portal.

Have a few hours and want to lend a hand? Sign up for a short Serve Your City or Service Your Campus volunteer project that matches your interest & availability. These projects are coordinated by the Student Community Engagement Center in partnership with some of our favorite community partners and supported by engaged student leaders. Whether on or off campus, get involved in the community, one service project at a time!

Once per term, join us for one of our Big Days of Service, joining with the PSU community make an impact on a single day! With multiple service projects to choose from and the opportunity to learn, connect, and reflect alongside fellow students, don't miss out on Portland State of Mind Day of Service (October) MLK Day of Service (January) or Earth Day of Service (April).

We also have longer-term service programming that engage students throughout the year.

Student Leaders for Service (SLS) is a year-long program that promotes a culture of community engagement on the PSU campus. SLS members serve weekly with a community partner, participate in Friday leadership classes, facilitate group service projects, and help promote a culture of community engagement at PSU. Each SLS member is responsible for serving 4-6 hours/week for the entire academic year at a community organization.



Mentor: Alder and Portland State is a weekly one-on-one mentoring program focused on creating strong connections between PSU mentors and Alder Elementary students to support learning and create connections to college. Each MAPS mentor serves 2-3 hours/week in winter and spring terms (training takes place in Fall).



Alternative Spring Break gets student out and engaged beyond Portland. Each spring break student teams travel to locations along the West Coast to learn from and work along side various communities during a week-long immersive service experience. ASB teams meet four times in winter and then serve during the entire week of Spring Break.

Sub-Basement Studios is Portland State's student-run production house, aiming to provide students with inclusive, immersive hands-on experience in all stages of film and video production.

The Green Note is a competitive all-inclusive a cappella group. We rehearse three times a week, put on two annual concerts, perform on campus, compete in national competitions, and accept outside gigs. We are proud to be heavily involved in Portland's music scene. Our repertoire includes Pop, Rock, R&B, and Jazz.

We compete in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) every year with all original arrangements and have won eight special awards at our Quarterfinal. In 2021, 2022, and 2024, we won our quarterfinal and advanced to the semi-finals. We've taken home several special awards including best choreography, best arrangement, best vocal mix, best vocal percussion and best soloist. Since the 2020 competition was fully online to stop the spread of COVID-19, we created a music video that's available to watch on our YouTube channel linked below. The video was shot, directed, and produced by members of the group. Auditions are usually held at the end of the spring term and the beginning of the fall term.

WiCS leadership has designed a new series that utilizes Scrimba’s Web Developer platform to encourage community learning. Our goal is to help students move beyond computer science theory and begin practical development. Starting with the basics—HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and later React—we'll follow Scrimba’s Front End Development pathway while covering topics like APIs, code reviews, and responsive, flexible design.


This course is intended to be collaborative and social, where students offer support and accountability for goals set outside the classroom. Much like a book club, work will be done individually and then we’ll discuss challenges we faced, lessons we learned, and how we applied modern development tools to become better problem solvers and software developers.


Leadership has had a great experience with Scrimba and is excited to share it with others. No prior coding experience is needed—just show up, hang out, learn, and build.

LeetCode Labs:

Once students have a basic understanding of Data Structures and Algorithms (we recommend completing CS 163), it's time to prepare for internship interviews. We'll break down LeetCode problems, with a special focus on lists/arrays, dictionaries/hashmaps, trees, and graphs. Each session will begin with quiet brainstorming, followed by using the whiteboards in FAB 88-08 to visualize and discuss different approaches. As with most developers, we'll be using NeetCode 150 to supplement our learning. Grinding LeetCode is difficult, but not more difficult than any other challenge you've mastered with practice and patience. Who needs a rubber duck when you have WiCS?

Whether remote or in person, WiCS continues its tradition of connecting students with industry software engineers and tech professionals. Guest speakers share their personal experiences and professional insights in a low-stakes, casual environment. Portland State World Antiquities Guild seeks to connect modern students and community members with ancient ideas, culture and language. Founded by PSU Latin students, the club's membership is currently centered mainly in Greco-Roman antiquity, but our goal is to foster a broad intersectionality among scholars of ancient cultures from across the world.


Members can look forward to visits to the special collection rooms at libraries, fascinating talks on ancient topics and how they reflect in the modern mind, themed social events, and general shenanigans as we revel in the amazing, mundane and strange that has been passed down to us by scribes, scholars, thieves, adventurers and enthusiasts of all stripes!

We may be few but our mission is important: to widen the community of global ancient scholars and increase access to the foundational material of which present social realities are formed. We strive to embrace new evidence and interpretations in the ongoing examination and reexamination of the interconnected global past so that we might challenge assumptions and long-held biases around ancient peoples and cultures.
