Mission
The Actuarial Science Club at Portland State University aims to build a supportive community for students interested in actuarial science and related fields. Our mission is to provide academic resources, professional development opportunities, and peer-to-peer support to help members succeed in actuarial exams, career exploration, and leadership growth. The Chapter is formed to advance the objectives of the Advancing Indigenous Science & Engineering Society, hereafter called Society, at Portland State University, which are as follows: to stimulate and develop American Indian and Pacific Islander student interest in science and engineering: to strive in promoting participation at all levels of responsibility in the fields of science and engineering by the American Indian and Pacific Islander communities; and to endeavor in the advancement of the American Indian and Pacific Islander professional students and engineers within the individual scientific and engineering disciplines. Creating a welcoming space, regardless of background or discipline.

Section 1: Membership in the PSU chapter of AISES is open to all PSU students.
Section 2: Membership in the National chapter of AISES shall at all times conform to the rules set in the By-laws and Code.
Section 3: Each member shall be entitled to one vote on each matter submitted to the Chapter.
Section 4: The Chapter “in no aspect of its programs shall there be any difference in the treatment of persons because of race, creed, color, national origin, disability, age, gender, any consideration based on affectional, sexual, or associated preference, or any other classification which would deprive the person of consideration as an individual.” The organization will guarantee that equal opportunity and access to membership, programming, facilities, and benefits shall be open to all persons.

The purpose of this club is to unite and organize Central American students towards better development at PSU by learning about our countries and creating unity through the expression of being from Central America or having Central American descent. We will join together to share information about our countries of origin, help one another, and create a visible Central American unity to foster respect for our cultures and identities. We hope to improve the conditions of the Central American diaspora at PSU in all aspects and realms related to academia. Including advocating for more representation, an inclusive academic curriculum related to the history of our countries, and for the institution and instructors to acknowledge our unique Central American heritage distinct from Chicanx/Mexican heritage.
