Led by Dr. Tanner Cooke, the program centers on COMM 312U: Media Literacy and combines pre-departure preparation with on-site coursework, academic lectures, and guided field visits. Students will analyze iconic and contested spaces like La Sagrada Família, Park Güell, and El Raval, while engaging in cultural exchanges with local students and media practitioners.
From Gaudí’s architecture to overtourism and identity politics, participants will critically explore how media representations influence cultural narratives and urban life. Through reflection, research, and hands-on analysis, students will gain tools to navigate media influence in global contexts and deepen their understanding of place, culture, and communication.
