The PSU Office of Global Engagement & Innovation is excited to once again host a number of activities and info sessions along with other PSU partners during International Education Week*! Get inspired to go global! The week is dedicated to celebrating the power of international education and exchange. Join in-person and virtual sessions to learn about program options, funding opportunities (including scholarships and financial aid), global career pathways, and much more!

*IEW is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, promoting programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and welcome future leaders from abroad.

We’ll also talk through funding options, travel logistics, safety, and how this experience contributes to majors in Environmental Science and Management, Biology, Geography, Sustainability, Anthropology, Global Studies, and related fields.

INFO SESSION: PSU Faculty-Led: Spain: Third-year Spanish Language in Context

Cultural & Language Immersion in Oviedo, Spain. Discover the heart of northern Spain through this four-week summer program in Oviedo, Asturias’s historic capital, known for its rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes. Students will strengthen their Spanish language skills while exploring the region’s art, literature, and history in an immersive, community-based setting.

Through site visits, class discussions, and hands-on cultural activities, participants will deepen their understanding of Spain’s artistic identity and linguistic diversity. From medieval architecture to modern marketplaces, Oviedo offers a vibrant backdrop for language learning and intercultural exploration.

Earn 12 credits (SPAN 301–303) while living and studying in one of Spain’s most authentic and welcoming cities.

INFO SESSION: PSU Faculty-Led: Spain: Third-year Spanish Language in Context

Attend this Info Session to learn about studying abroad in Oviedo, Spain! Students who attend this program will embark on a journey through Asturias, a region with over 2,000 years of history, art, and culture. This summer term program explores how Spain’s national identity has been shaped through its literature, architecture, and artistic traditions, while also examining the vibrant social and cultural life of contemporary Spain.

You’ll not only experience Spanish culture firsthand but also strengthen your Spanish language skills through engaging classes, readings, and discussions focused on fluency, writing, and real-world communication. Participants will earn 12 credits (SPAN 301, 302, 303), building on prior coursework to advance language proficiency.

Prerequisite: Students should have completed SPAN 203 or demonstrate equivalent proficiency.

INFO SESSION PSU Faculty-Led: Spain: The Mediated City: Barcelona Through the Lens of Media Literacy

The Mediated City: Media & Culture in Barcelona. Explore Barcelona through a media lens in this two-week faculty-led summer program focused on communication, culture, and urban identity. Students will examine how films, advertisements, news, and social media shape global perceptions of the city—and how those narratives compare to the lived experiences of its residents.

Led by Dr. Tanner Cooke, the program centers on COMM 312U: Media Literacy and combines pre-departure preparation with on-site coursework, academic lectures, and guided field visits. Students will analyze iconic and contested spaces like La Sagrada Família, Park Güell, and El Raval, while engaging in cultural exchanges with local students and media practitioners.

From Gaudí’s architecture to overtourism and identity politics, participants will critically explore how media representations influence cultural narratives and urban life. Through reflection, research, and hands-on analysis, students will gain tools to navigate media influence in global contexts and deepen their understanding of place, culture, and communication.

INFO SESSION PSU Faculty-Led: France: Exploring Paris as a Pedestrian City

Explore Paris as a living classroom in this immersive, PSU faculty-led program this summer in Paris, France! The program will be focused on urban studies and community engagement. Students will earn 8 credits while examining identity, development, and social justice through daily fieldwork in diverse Paris neighborhoods.

Activities include guided walking tours, visits to local markets, and hands-on projects like photo essays and demographic profiles. Open to all majors, this program fulfills general education requirements and is ideal for students interested in cities, culture, and global community-building.

Note: This is a pedestrian-intensive program. Students should be prepared for daily walking and navigating urban terrain.
